2.4.25-ben1 on my G4 PowerMAC

Postby motojl » 23 Sep 2004, 01:53

Hello,

I am running 3.0.1 and was wanting to try out 2.4.25 from http://www.ppckernel.org/download/ydl-2.4/linux-ydl-2.4-2.4.25-ben1.tar.gz.

I snagged it from the above and copied the kernel and System.map to /boot. I also stuck the modules under /lib/modules.

I changed my yaboot.conf like so :
Code: Select all
boot=/dev/hda2
device=/pci@f4000000/ata-6@d/disk@0:
init-message="Welcome to Yellow Dog Linux!\nHit <TAB> for boot options.\n\n"
partition=3
timeout=30
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot
default=linux

image=/boot/vmlinux-2.4.25-ben1
        label=linux
        root=/dev/hda3
        read-only
        append="hde=ide-scsi"

image=/boot/vmlinux-2.4.22-2g
        label=linux.old2g
        root=/dev/hda3
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.22-2g.img
        append="hde=ide-scsi"

image=/boot/vmlinux-2.4.22-2f
        label=linux.old2f
        root=/dev/hda3
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.22-2f.img
        append="hde=ide-scsi"

macosx=/dev/hdb9
defaultos=linux
delay=10
enablecdboot

So I essentially copied the 2.4.22-2g entry only removing the initrd statement as there was no image in the tarball.

I then run ybin and reboot, only to get a message about how it can't find device "hda".

I am sorry I can't be more descriptive, but it is switching video modes during the bring up and I miss most of the kernel messages, and since it can't find the root device it never logs anything.

So I guess I am asking if anything looks or sounds out of whack.

Thanks,
Chad
