Hi folks,

This repository i found on the net is a goldmine for everything, yes including prebuilt advanced kernels for linux along with xfree86 etc.. you must see just how many packages have been ported.

learning how to compile a kernel and programs is a very necessary step to becoming an advanced linux user; not all programs (or at least the newest) will be precompiled and compiled kernels that match all of your header files and lib files are hard to come by. Though I'll admit its nice to try a statically compiled version of a program before you go out and install it (compile it and its libs) yourself

You're on the dot with that concept. Take a dip before you plunge. That's how most great developers/compilers become. I generally point people in the right direction by exposing the actual work before they attempt hair pulling compiles.
