yum and 2.6.9

Postby Ben Ben » 12 Dec 2004, 18:48

After updating the kernel of my ydl4 with yum update kernel*
i got the following error

Test transaction complete, Success!
kernel-g5 100 % done 1/4
kernel 100 % done 2/4
kernel-source 100 % done 3/4
Completing update for kernel-g5 - 4/4
Kernel Updated/Installed, checking for bootloader
No bootloader found, Cannot configure kernel, continuing.
Installed: kernel 2.6.9-1.ydl.8.ppc kernel-source 2.6.9-1.ydl.8.ppc
Updated: kernel-g5 2.6.9-1.ydl.8.ppc

Well how should i configure yaboot now?
Last time i just made a new entry pointing to the new image file like this:
image=/vmlinux-2.6.9-1.ydl.8
label=linux
read-only
initrd=/initrd-2.6.9-1.ydl.8.img
root=/dev/hda3
append="rhgb quiet"

But after a restart it just gave me the option linux, but the old kernel (2.6.8) wasn't there, even if i renamed its label....
when i tried to boot "linux" it just said it couldn't find Kernel 2.6.8 (but nothing of 2.6.9). Sounds a bit weird, so how do i have to make this entry to get the right kernel without crashing my system?

your kernel and initrd are stored in the /boot dir (which is y your last entry didnt work) try this

image=/boot/vmlinux-2.6.9-1.ydl.8
label=linux
read-only
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.6.9-1.ydl.8.img
root=/dev/hda3
append="rhgb quiet"
Til our paths cross again

Well thats one thing, the other thing is i forgot after changing the yaboot.conf a ybin -v

But the thing is if i correct the pathes it doesn't find anything. So i changed the pathes back to / and the root to /dev/hda5 where /boot is mounted, so it looked like this

image=/vmlinux-2.6.9-1.ydl.8
label=linux
read-only
initrd=/initrd-2.6.9-1.ydl.8.img
root=/dev/hda5
append="rhgb quiet"

Now the kernel is found but it says it can't find the initrd even if the name is right and its in /boot :-\
