Does Fixstars supply a SRPM of YDL 6.1 kernel?

Postby uncholowapo » 23 Dec 2008, 17:18

I tried using
Code: Select all
yumdownloader --source kernel

to try and get it but unfortunately the command is not found. It should be available shouldn't it?
PS3 40GB has YDL 6.1 running 480i on a piece of $#!% Sanyo 24 incher. Need to go to 1080p.

Kernel Sources via Yum

Postby NeoAmsterdam » 23 Dec 2008, 23:15

Use this instead:
Code: Select all
yum list "*kernel*"
If you don't see kernel-source.ppc & co. listed, let us know.
shutdown -h now # Will the last person to leave please remember to turn off the lights?

Nope not a sign of it:
Code: Select all
[Juan@shadowtracer ~]$     yum list "*kernel*"
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
24 packages excluded due to repository protections
Installed Packages
kernel.ppc64                             2.6.27-1.ydl61.4       installed
kernel-headers.ppc                       2.6.27-1.ydl61.4       installed
Available Packages
arm-gp2x-linux-kernel-headers.noarch     2.6.12.0-1.fc6         fedora-extras
yum-kernel-module.noarch                 1.0.3-1.fc6            fedora-extras
[Juan@shadowtracer ~]$

Prevention or Protection

Postby NeoAmsterdam » 24 Dec 2008, 04:08

This line deserves some attention:
Code: Select all
24 packages excluded due to repository protections
I'd take a look at the file corresponding to the "fedora-extras" repo (which one it is I have no clue, but it'll probably be somewhere in /etc/yum.repos.d or somesuch). I think that the problem is either (a) the config file specifies that packages named "kernel-sources" are to be ignored, or (b) that you've installed a package that protects [allegedly] important packages such as "kernel-sources". I recall having a similar situation not too long ago with YDL 6.0 and a Fedora 7 repo file.

Try disabling the fedora-extras repo and re-enabling YDL's own.

Addendum: There's a third possibility which is that you've installed a new kernel from a repository other than Yellow Dog's, in which case YDL's sources take a back seat. I doubt it, but I mention it just in case.

I'll try disabling the yum-protectbase plugin instead because that is where that line comes from but I'll do it tommorow. Tomorrow is the big day for the kids to stay up past 8 and wait for Santa :D
