YDL 5.0 boot problem

Hi guys, new to this forum.
I've had my PS3 since launch and installed the YDL 5.0 almost immediately. 3 years have past and i've never used YDL but have started using it recently. I tried to update it to 5.1 to get wifi and I messed with the /etc/kboot.conf file and now when i try to boot YDL it stops at an error message:

"/init:eval: 1 : /dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3: not found"

I followed this tutorial:
http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/suppo ... tall.shtml

I really am stuck with what to do, and I really hope i can recover my original YDL 5.0 OS. Is there a way to boot it into recovery mode to re-edit the kboot.conf file?

Are you able to select your old kernel using the TAB key at the kboot prompt?

Hi i tried the TAB key but its not working. It keeps repeating the same line over and over until it eventually shuts down:

/init : eval: 1 : /dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3: not found
kboot:
/init : eval: 1 : /dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3: not found
kboot:
/init : eval: 1 : /dev/sda1:/vmlinux-2.6.16-20061110.ydl.2ps3: not found
.....etc for about 3 or 4 minutes then shuts down itself.

Please help. I cant afford to format and lose all my precious data, also i cant afford another hard drive either (just a student).

thanks
chris

The bootloader described in this post may help you get to and edit your kboot.conf file:

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3097&start=0

I guess on YDL 5.x you'd use this for step 6:

Code: Select all
vi tmp/etc/kboot.conf

It has been a long time since I used YDL 5, though... the install DVD might also let you boot a rescue mode.
