Yellow Dog Linux

I've been playing around with the yellow dog install CD to try and get it to do some custom stuff. I have previously done this with some live Linux cds for x86 machines. It does not find the init process on the ramdisk image. i know it is there. Is there any rules on how this is set up, or how to set up the kernel for this to work?
