XMMS install problem

Postby Gangleri » 13 May 2007, 09:46

I'm new to Linux , and the Forum. (HELLO ALL) :D

I tried to install xmms on YDL for PS3.
( I Do not have internet on the PS3 so I must compile the source)

Downloaded the tar ball when I did
/configure it gave me an error about missing gtk/glib . I've downloaded them
but could not install them because the /configure displayed error about the CPU type.

Afterwards I saw that I have them already installed. ( AS I understood they are used by Gimp and that app comes with the installation of Linux, also I've managed to install mplayer so the libraries must be present)

Please if someone had managed to get xmms working and playing mp3 on the PS3 please post a how to .

As I saw Terra soft had removed the support for the mp3 format (STUPID LEGAL CRAP)
and I think a tutorial on how to install XMMS from source will be very helpful to all. (Because obviously the instructions given in xmms.org are not working)

Big Thanks in advance. I hope in the near future (When I get more accustomed with Linux), I'll contribute to the community.

Ok I have the glib installed with YDL I've tried to run the rpm in the DVD and it said that the pacage is already installed.

It occured to my to try :

Code: Select all
export GLIB_CONFIG="/PATH TO LIBRARY/"
./configure

I did :

Code: Select all
find /name "glib*" -print

And found several instances. Tried them all . But the ./config of xmms
keep asking for glib-config . What is this ?
I'm sure someone here had already installed xmms. Please help ?
I'm fighting with that stupid problem for over a week now.
