Blue Screen Only When Logging Into Gnome/X

hello,
I need help, when Gnome starts, I get the regular graphical loggin screen, but then after logging in I only get a blue screen. I am running YDL 3.0.1 on a PPC 7500 with a G3 Card (although I don't think linux is recognizing the NewerTech G3 card) with a Nokia 447W 17" monitor. The machine has 4mb Vram and 176MB of Ram.
I am a newbie and am trying to get a personal webserver running.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. also I am not sure what the actual video settings should be so that I can get greater than 800x600 resolution or for the image to fill the screen without black borders on the sides.

I've somewhat solved the problem. I reinstalled YDL and installed KDE. KDE works, but Gnome does not.
