Help with X.

Postby Thursday » 11 Sep 2007, 03:50

Listed below is my current Xorg config file, that I had to nab from Kubuntu's PPC Live CD, as I'm not skilled with X servers all that much, that and I'm new to the whole PPC thing.

The deal is, this is an iMac my grandmother gave, that I am trying to make reusable and it's so far so good =), got KDE up and running, and the runlevel set to 5, it was set to 3 by default??? go figure. The thing is... I know my xorg config file isn't optimized for this iMac, and I'd provide more information about the iMac model and what not, but I have no clue what information I should provide and where should I provide it to.

One thing I want to know after someone teaches me how to find out about all the things inside this baby, will it be able to do 1280x1024... I believe this imac is from 1999 that's about the only thing I know about it.

I installed 5.0.2 on my old iMac and it works very well, all things considered. What version of YDL did you install?

There should be a model number somewhere on the iMac that would let you know the specs...

Um... well I just downloaded the disc a month ago, so I would assume 5.0.2 or slightly earlier

iMac: 500/IN/128/20/CDRW/ULTRA/56k/FW/VGA
Model: M5521
DHHS: CH
EMC: 1857

Hmm... I have the same model #, but slightly different specs: G3-400, 256MB RAM (upgraded), 10GB HDD, DVD-ROM

If you only have CDRW and no DVD drive, I guess you would get these:
ftp://mirror.anl.gov/pub/yellowdog/iso/ ... -CD-IMAGES

I believe I had the problem of graphic mode not being the default in either 5.0 or 5.0.1 when I installed on my iMac, but I don't have that problem in 5.0.2. Sorry I can't be of any more help with it ...

Thanks... perhaps another user can assist me. Appreciate the help... perhaps then you could provide your xorgconf?

Sorry, but bump... I like YDL, and I'd like to keep it around, and just use SuSE on my other computers... I'd hate to scrap a good linux distro like this one just because of a silly X config that is incorrect... so someone with a similar model could post their config file? please
