Ibook X Problems

Hi when my ibook started its first boot of yellow dog i chose millions of collors and now i am getting an error EE FBDEV 0 FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO: INvalid argument

my question is how do i configure x because i cant start it do i type xconfig because that didn't work.... please help

To locate an executable, use 'whereis' command:
]$ whereis Xautoconfig
Xautoconfig: /usr/X11R6/bin/Xautoconfig /usr/bin/X11/Xautoconfig

Xautoconfig program is in /usr/X11R6/bin/ AND /usr/bin/X11/. There is two occurences of the same app.

Know your options first.
]$ /usr/X11R6/bin/Xautoconfig --help


You got such error because the default configuration let you use programs found in and /bin only. See /home/name/.bash_profile file:

-<snip>---
# User specific environment and startup programs

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin
-<snip>---

You can add more PATHs with this syntax:
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:<path2>:<path3>:<path4>

Mine look like that:
PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin

I need to get millions of colors working please how do i do that because everytime i choose millions of colors x server crashes i am using an ibook g4 14' monitor..... please help.

about Sound: its just broken. Im afraid you won't get any beeps (say: on events, errors, notifications) out of YDL4 right now. We all hope TSS will find some time and correct this. You be able to listen to CD, mp3s and streams after you compiled xmms-1.2.10-1 from <www.xmms.org>

Try to update X11. Most people recommend to use FC2/FC3 src.rpm files. Use 'rpmbuild --rebuild some_package_name.src.rpm' You self-baked RPMS will land in /usr/src/yellowdog/RPMS/<ARCH>/ Install'em with 'rpm -Uvh --force some_package_name.ppc.rpm'

I know Xorg has version 6.8.1 out. It sure rock my old Mach64. Many improvements has been made since 6.6 especially about ATY pieces.
