Unfortunately - Adobe does not provide a Flash player for the PowerPC processor in the PS3. We have to use open source, reverse engineered, semi-compatible Flash-workalikes called gnash or swfdec.

If you haven't already, you should set up your system according to the post here:
viewtopic.php?t=3017

You should find both of these in our standard repository setup. (Gnash is availalbe from the default YDL repositories now, I think.)

As for codecs, you'll want to install gstreamer-plugins-ugly and gstreamer-plugins-bad - that will allow the built-in players like Totem, etc. handle MP3s, etc. You get those from the same repos I listed above.

Just FYI - Realplayer doesn't seem to work correctly on the PS3. I tried for a while to get it working, but I think the lack of true X Overlay Plane support for video in the framebuffer driver did me in. :D

Also - be careful of what you're installing. The PS3 isn't compatible with any binary code for x86 processors - you need to make sure the code you're downloading is PowerPC architecture (aka ppc). The standard repos take care of that.

Cheers,
Paul

That's the problem.

So - Adobe has an x86 Linux Flash player
and Adobe has a PowerPC Mac Flash player

But - Adobe does not have a PowerPC Linux Flash player. :(

By default, YDL comes installed with Gnash and mplayer plugins - some of those open-source, reverse engineered video & Flash players I was talking about.

But - they have a lot of problems.

So - You can't watch YouTube with a default YDL install. :(

There are some forum members who have a work-around. But - it's tricky to install:

Yes - YDL 6.0/6.1 is based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Specifically, it is based on the CentOS recompile of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is about 3 versions behind Fedora releases:

CentOS information is here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centos

Previously, YDL 5.0 was based on Fedora.

The gstreamer-bad & gstreamer-ugly plugins are not in update/base/extras. You'll have to add the other three repositories - fedora/dribble/livna-stable - as shown here:
viewtopic.php?t=3017

If you're having issues with the repositories, start here:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=4785
