X11 freezes G3 Lombard 400MHZ 320MB RAM Halfway Thru Setup

i currently have ydl 4.01 and after trying to get install gui mode to work, it freezes while trying to initilise X11 after running anacoda from cd 1 setup. I have been able to do a text based install and after rebooting, i boot with 'linux single' which takes me to the shell prompt. i type setup and when i run the x configuration setup my laptop locks up. is there a way to fix as i do not want to have to download ydl 4.0 and not be able to play audio CD's.
