Problem with X on Powerbook G3 (Lombard)

Postby darienzo » 30 Apr 2005, 21:35

Folks - I've just upgraded from YDL 3.* to 4.0, and I'm having some difficulty getting a useable X display. The install was not totally smooth - couldn't use the graphical install, but text seemed to work OK. I reset the runlevel to 3.

Xautoconfig gives a truly ugly display, but I can get to the display settings screen. In the display settings, I've chosen generic LCD, Apple Powerbook G3, and others, but no matter how I identify the display, when I log out and back in, all I get is vertical bars, usually blue and of varying widths, scattered rather randomly across the screen.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful.

Thanks!!

how did you upgrade? reinstall (why a seperate /home partition is good) or did you modify yum.conf and do it that way? if the latter then several dependency issues may still exist

quick suggestion is 1. make sure you system is up-to-date then run Xautoconfig to see if it can generate a working X config file. If not post a request for a working one on the same hardware either here or on the mailing lists

I am having the same problem.

I am trying to install YD on an iBook G3 Dual USB (white) PPC 500 and the text install works, but all GUI (install & setup) are shifted to the bottom right of the screen and beyond, sort of like if the horizontal and vertical controls were off on a tv/monitor. I am doing a full original install with bootable cds. I think the YD I'm installing is the most recent release. I've tried getting help on the mac forums and the linux forums, but nobody seems to know what to do. This is a laptop from 2001 so support should not be a problem.

Prethanks!
