Samba File Server

Running YDL on a Server.

Samba File Server

Postby ning » 03 Jun 2009, 20:01

Please help,
I set up a Samba File Server on my ydlps3, I can see the server's icon on my Win2K "Computers Near Me", but when click at it, a pop-up says "//ps3ydl is not accessible. The network path was not found". However, my FTP server is running well at the same time.

Thanks,
John

There's a couple of things you could check:

1. Are the permissions set appropriately on the file server folder
2. Is the appropriate w2k username/password entered in samba
3. Is the appopriate w2k username/password entered in ydl (not sure if this is required)
4. Can you ping the samba server from the w2k machine
ps3 60gb, cechc04, fw-3.15, ydl-6.2/cblfs multi-lib dual boot
dell 2009w monitor, logitech mediaboard (usb)

1. Are the permissions set appropriately on the file server folder
The permission is set on the server as "User", which requires an "Encrypt Passwords" from a client log in

2. Is the appropriate w2k username/password entered in samba
I didn't get to this stage since it says "//ps3ydl is not accessible. ...", click OK then ended. I even cannot see the User Name -- Pass Word pup-up.

3. Is the appopriate w2k username/password entered in ydl (not sure if this is required)

4. Can you ping the samba server from the w2k machine
Yes, I can ping the server from my Win2K.

Sorry, that's not what I meant - is the w2k username/password entered using:
Code: Select all
# smbpasswd -a username
ps3 60gb, cechc04, fw-3.15, ydl-6.2/cblfs multi-lib dual boot
dell 2009w monitor, logitech mediaboard (usb)

# smbpasswd -a username

I did the following:
# useradd -m win2kUser
# passwd win2kUser
# cat /etc/passwd | /usr/bin/mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/samba/smbpasswd
# smbpasswd win2kUser

I did also the graphic setup.

Thanks,
John

it is hard to understand why I did exactly the same Samba File Server set-up on ydl-ps3 as on a Linux-x86, the Window machine is working well while the ps3 is not.

I can see the ps3 icon on my Win2K PC just cannot open it, says "The network path was not found". While at the same time, the ftp server is working well on my ps3.

Thanks,
John
