what *nix distros really install on the mac G5's & boot

Hi all,
Ok,,,,...... has anyone "got" an Apple iMac G5 17" Flat LCD Screen with Super Drive that will actually install "ANY" of the available iso downloadable flavour versions of Linux to "really" install and "really" boot.

PARTICULARLY ON AN EXTERNAL FIREWIRE LARGE HARD DISK DRIVE
OURS IS 320 gig, in size. Without haveing to be a Philly Lawyer or tech head.

There would probably be a seperate PPC64 group of ISO's involved, just PPC would not do, in fact they may well be "Old World Mac" compatible only Linux Hybrid Variants ONLY. In other words as useful as "tit's on a bull" if you have an iMac with G5 based CPU and or G5 CPU based Apple Power PC

From the Apple Symbol in top rh corner About this Mac/More Info (button) you should see this.....

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: iMac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 1.5 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1
Serial Number ************** <<< here you would have a mixture of alpha and number characters

This is our info on our very new G5 iMac 17" with SuperDrive.
My Wife,Family and I have come to an abrupt hault after realizing that many PPC64 Linux ( *nix OS's) are "NOT" CAPABLE OF INSTALLING on our new iMac G5 17" PC. Haveing taken days per distro to download .iso's, burn them onto blank CD Sets, only to be greeted with errors that suggest that the installer and or boot kernel is broken. We know have to rely on truthful persons to tell us "what" works on their iMac G5 PC.

Oh....... by the way .... Yellow Dog Linux version 4.0.1 will not even get to the installer getting rockin' it's R/S !!!
The latest Minimum Install iso of Gentoo version is the same
The latest full install of Gentoo fails to want to know about our external Firewire HDD.

Other Linux on Mac Distro's are hit and miss about installing on Apple G5 based PC's.

Any help appreciated, I'm ready to call the looney toon farm.

thanks and regards
