Using a USB stick in PS2 Linux

ppietro,

You ever come across a way for a USB memory stick to be mounted / used in PS2 linux?

Also, you ever run across problems using the C++ language (cpp ) with the PS2? I compile a simple "hello world" but get execution errors.

I'm using the KDE X-windows environment for the PS2.

PS2 linux has a nice set of languages - I've tried out the C , Perl, Python, Fortran 77, but C++ is causing problems.

Ok, I found the solution for the C++ problem.

I was using the command cpp to compile the C++ source in a terminal session, but using the compile command C++ in terminal, the program would work fine.

You know, I meant to get back to you earlier about this. Mea culpa.

Re: USB on PS2: I don't think I ever tried it, to be honest. I've used PS2 memory cards with it, but never USB. Sorry.

Cheers,
Paul

Yes, but you'll need to use one of the Xrhino kernels to make it work properly. Once you get that installed you'll just mount the memory stick manually in the usual way.

CronoCloud - does my custom 2.4.17 kernel support that? I hadn't even thought about that one.

Alternatively, can you just recompile the stock kernel to add the support? Or was that introduced in later kernels?

I think it does, can't remember specifically.

You could recompile the stock kernel, but USB storage in 2.2.1 was iffy and didn't work properly, it works perfectly well in XRhino 2.2.18 and later.

I did a search for the Rhno, no sites / availability to get it.

Guess I came late to the party. :(

My 2.4.17 kernel is at the link I provided in my previous post:
http://playstation2-linux.com/projects/mozilla-ps2

You'll want to click on "view all project files" to see the files you need.

You will have to use a standard North American PS2 network adapter with that - there are issues with the Linux adapter and that kernel.

The standard North American network adapter is the one with the Ethernet + Modem.

Cheers,
Paul

P.S. Looks like the xrhino kernel is there too:
