Sony's new way of adding PS2 emulation to your PS3

Hi everyone,

So - one of the most requested features for the PS3 is PS2 backwards compatibility (aka BC). The original launch PS3s had PS2 BC in hardware and the 2nd generation PS3s had a software/hardware hybrid.

Then - Sony dropped the feature entirely.

Many people speculate that Sony was going to offer some sort of PS2 software emulator, but, so far, the oddness of the PS2s architecture has prevented this.

For a while, folks were discussing a Sony patent to provide PS2 BC via an external "PS2 in a box". Eurogamer has a good explanation of it here:

but - frankly - that's just too weird to ever see the light of day.

Well - Sony figured out a way to add PS2 BC to your PS3 and sell TVs at the same time; they added the PS2 to a Bravia. If you plug your PS3 into the Bravia - PRESTO - instant PS2 BC system.

And - Viola! Here it is:

Check out the base of that Bravia! UK only, I'm afraid.

You can read more about it here:

Cheers,
Paul

P.S. Yeah - I know it's not really PS3 BC. But - you know that's how they're gonna spin it on the sales floor. :D
