Development

Any ideas to make to board even better? Tell me!

Development

(Kamika, I tried to send this message to you and to owen, via private message but both messages are stuck in my "outbox")

As per Kai's last post to the mailing lists:

http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pip ... 00380.html

He states that this forum would be used for Devel as well.. perhaps a seperate Category should be created called: Development.

Under this category there should be:

Kernel Development (move this from Discussion)
Source Builds & RPM Development
others??

I am a intermediate Linux user, systems/network administrator, I have done source builds under Fedora, and RH 9, and haven't done much RPM development, but.. I'd like to learn and start creating RPM's for YDL. I have been trying to find some howto's on building from source under PPC (YDL) also, with no luck, I think that once this information is found, it could be used in a 'sticky' to help other members learn to develop.

Also, I found this link in the forums:

http://lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/pip ... 00165.html

It's a hypothesis of the development structure for contributing to the package development of YDL, is there currently a process for outside contributors to get their packages tested and added to the YUM system?

Finally, I would be intersted in moderating or assisting with the Development category if it is made.

Please let me know what you think.

ok, I see :)

Kai was talking about the original Board.

This is the Community Board he now linked because the official
is "frozen".

But if this was his plan it is also a good idea for this board.

Will be done immediatelly

little addition:

i just noticed that there is no link to the tss board any more.
it redirects to this one.

so what was said about moderators there is not true for this board.

what do you think? how much interest is here for a development section?

development section..

Postby Z3K3 » 12 Aug 2004, 19:26

well, seeing as Kai has frozen their board, and is redirecting people to this board.. it seems that a development section here is called for... personally, I would like to assist in the development of apps and RPMs for distribution.. hopefully others will feel the same way! And, since Kai has also dumped the devel mailing lists.. we're going to need someplace!

my 2.5 cents

well,
this is news I didn't know about.

so I guess there will be a devel section here.
maybe we work on a rpm archive for non common stuff.

I myself really need eclipse 8)

so I will also try to spend some rpms.

RPM Resources..

Postby Z3K3 » 12 Aug 2004, 19:59

Maybe a RPM Resources Section would be good too..

I've found the following two links to be very helpful so far:

http://www2.linuxforum.net/RPM/Yellow_D ... hrpms.html
http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/yellowdog/3.0/

Guys,

I would really rather not see a development section here as I might visit the board once a week... There is already a yellowdog-devel list that gets little to no traffic that we could utilize.

There is also the #yellowdog and #ydl-devel IRC channels, where you guys can bug me with development matters.

I'll try and write a guide on building RPMs when I get some time.

Cheers,

sorry to quesion...

Postby Z3K3 » 13 Aug 2004, 19:49

Owen,

Sorry to quesion you.. but in the last posting to the devel list kai said that it was scrapped and was moving the the forum.. which.. points to yellowdog-board.com now? I tried to subscribe to the devel-list.. but never got an automated response...

so is IRC the final answer then?

Do you mind if we do a PACKAGE (RPM) Development section here?

Yeah I also think adding these two forums would be a good idea since both reasources for devel no longer exist and not everyone uses IRC, as this is now the ydl official forum I think we should add these forums and take on the responsibility handed to the staff and owner(s) of this forum...just my two cents
