Firewire device dev.

I was looking at the specs for my ibook and realized that the firewire port could fully power a microcontroller programmer (as some parts require upto 13V to send them into their programming states) Im looking for anyone that has any experience with developing firewire devices as I would like to make one for the PicMicro controllers that I use in my robotics projects. So if anyone has any experience w/ this sort of thing and is interested please pm me to discuse this further
