Setting 800 x 600 or larger system font.

Hi all, Happy New Years!

I just installed YDL and have a problem reading the small text on my Sony 34" HDTV connected via HDMI @720p. When trying to adjust the screen resolution I get the error:

No refresh rates reported by your X display server. If you are running a nested X display server then this is to be expected. However if you are not then the current refresh rate will be used when setting the resolution, which my cause damage to your system.

I am logged in as root.

Really all I need to do is set the system font (used EVERYWHERE and for all users existing or new) to a few points larger, but could only seem to find where to set font size for all kinds of things like windows titles, and so on.

You'll have to play with the available modes, trial and error basically.
