edit: also, when I try to run sdlmame, if my sixaxis controller is connected to the ps3 via bluetooth or usb, when running mame, the menu continuously scrolls, as if the down arrow key is permanently depressed. This doesn't happen when the controller is off or unplugged.

I'm away from my PS3  and will have to check on using the sixaxis in quake 2 later. Glad the RPM worked to install it for you -- I don't get much input on those from other users. The RPM includes several patches to the source code to deal with some compile errors, and also adds a couple of PS3 specific resolutions through source code patches (like 960x720).

With sdlmame, make sure you have sixaxis = 1 set in your mame.ini file -- it's at the bottom. I also get this problem with a regular PC gamepad plugged in, and have to hit a button for it to stop, then it works normally.

Haha no problem on the RPM.

Thanks for the sdlmame instructions. Will test it later when I have time :)

On my system it shows up in the Applications -> Games menu as "Freedoom" or I can start it from a terminal window with prboom.

Downloaded prboom through add/remove, anyway to get it onto the app menu rather than having to play through the terminal? Really annoying, I actually had Doom on CD but god knows where it is. I guess I am within my rights to locate a wad from somewhere else? :D

Also tried to download Alephone...have download the pack things but when I run the correct command line in says that it cannot execute the binary.

:P

leicesterfan wrote:Also apparently installed prboom, but it didn't appear in applications so tried to run from the teminal...

[root@localhost ~]# prboom
prboom: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by prboom)

I then tried to download that GLIBC file, but then it would not let me install it as it said I have a newer version.

I'm sick and I'm working (ugh) but I'll try to help out...

What exactly did you try to download, and how did you try to install it (re: GLIBC)?

You can show a complete list of dependencies and how they are provided for a package like this:

Code: Select all
[bill@localhost ~]$ yum deplist prboom
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Finding dependencies:

But yum should be taking care of these automatically when you install.

Sorry matey. I am running into problems when I try and download from other sources.

I search for PPC RPM but I guess some files still don't work properly.

Got it working now, just need to find a doom WAD...where is that CD!?

Also anyway to get it into the app menu rather than opening from the terminal?

Thanks. Don't feel the need to help if you aren't well. You have helped me so much already!

Generally, you shouldn't be downloading RPM files using the web browser, but getting them from the repos as described here (using Add / Remove Software, or yum install packagename from a terminal window.

If you're using any RPM packages from my downloads page you'd open them directly from your web browser though (like with Alephone). It could be that I missed a dependency when creating an RPM... If I already have one of the requirements installed but missed including a dependency requirement in the RPM package (that isn't on YDL by default), that can create a problem installing one of my RPMs.

How did you install Alephone? My RPM can be found here:

I downloaded that main file, then followed the site and downloaded the maraton and marathon 2 data files, then ran the command line as per your instructions

So when you downloaded AlephOne-20071103-2.ydl6.ppc.rpm, you opened it with the software installer and it installed OK with no errors?

Yep. Install successful, then downloaded data packs, also fine but then cannot run binary when on the terminal...

Messing around with Doom as well, is it possible to get the game running on a higher resolution? Can't find a config file...

re: AlephOne, can you give me the output of:

rpm -q AlephOne
(note the caps A & O)

And also (again it's case sensitive):

rpm -q AlephOne-M1A1

And finally, just (all lowercase this time):

alephone-m1a1

And which version of Doom are you referring to? prboom?

EDIT: The config file for prboom is located in your home directory in a hidden folder (folders that begin with a . don't show up by default in the file manager or with ls -- you have to use ls -a or select "Show Hidden Files" in the file manager. So it's here:

~/.prboom/prboom.cfg

And you change the resolution by setting it specifically here in that file:

Code: Select all
screen_width                960
screen_height               720

Use xdpyinfo | grep 'dimensions' to determine your actual screen resolution (in pixels) and set it to match.

Thanks for the doom explanation.

Before I read your post I unistalled Aleph and started again. This time it told me that I needed a data back. It did not say that first time.

EDIT: I do not actually log in as a user. I just log in as root...have I made things hard for myself as I cannot find the prboom folder...

Not sure what that means ... to help out with this I'll need the exact output of the commands I posted above.
