Just installed Betrayal at Krondor. It runs smoothly under DOSBox 0.70. [link removed -- I don't believe it was released as freeware -- billb]

That's cool that they released it as freeware (according to that site anyway). I read the books (the Riftwar saga by Raymond Feist) but never played the game.

[EDIT: looked into it a little and don't believe this game is really "freeware"]

Pydance

I'm not into the dance pad type games, but just checked out pydance and it runs smoothly on YDL 6 / PS3. See screenshots. If you're like me and don't have a USB dance pad sitting around, you can use the keyboard or a joystick instead.

It's written with Python, so, assuming you have Python installed (yum install python), pretty much all you do is download and extract the source (currently pydance-1.0.3.tar.gz), download some song (.ogg), step (.dance), banner (.png), and background (.jpg) files and put them in ~/.pydance/songs, cd to the folder you extracted the pydance source to, and run it with:

./pydance

A few sample song & step files are at the bottom of the download page. Again, they go in:
~/.pydance/songs

Jools is a Bejeweled clone, runs via Python and Pygame

Download the tarball, untar it and install as root with:

python setup.py install

Nethack

Nethack is a classic roguelike game:

http://www.nethack.org

It's available via yum:

yum install nethack

You'll want to read the Guidebook to setup your .nethackrc I'd post mine but I play a compiled from source patched version.

You can also play nethack via telnet, open up a term (preferably with reverse video option) and:

telnet -8 nethack.alt.org

If you enjoy Roguelike games you might like this one -- Ragnarok / Valhalla -- playable in DOSbox. Get it here:

EDIT: changed link

Yeah, I love me a good roguelike/diablo style game. That one looks interesting. I have DOSbox installed so I can play the Epyx version of DOS Rogue, which I first played back in 85 and SSI's Dungeon Hack.

I almost forgot, if standard TTY or Athena based X11 nethack seems overwhelming, there's an isometric graphical interface to Nethack called Vultures Eye (formerly known as falcon's eye). It's point and click for everything. It might even be in the repos. Why yes, yes it is, as nethack-vultures

The Amiga version of Moria is nice ...
http://www.beej.us/moria/

I played through that one a couple of times back when I was running an Amiga 500 ... it's playable on the E-UAE Amiga emulator. It kinda spoiled me since it had bitmapped graphics instead of just text.

But Ragnarok is great ... and hard! Very easy to get killed in one wrong step. It's cool when you find a scroll or wand that lets you transform into another creature ... I finished it while transformed into a "Borgon Vile" -- they're pretty tough. :D

I've added a dosbox-ragnarok RPM to my software repo ... see here for info:
http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/bodeg ... rt=20#p580

This takes of installing dosbox if you don't already have it, installs the DOS game files, and adds a menu item to launch the game for you. No messing with dosbox settings at all ... it launches as if it were a regular Linux game. Alt+Enter switches from full-screen to windowed mode.

Just finished packaging another Rogue-like game called ToME: Tales of Middle Earth (PPC Linux X11 version). See details here:
http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/bodeg ... p=590#p590

Also, if anyone knows of some good old freeware DOS games I can make installers for those easily now (same as I did with dosbox-ragnarok mentioned earlier). I don't think I want to host "abandonware" DOS games, but there are quite a few RPM packages that install them included in PCLinuxOS 2007's Extras repo (including Warcraft I: Orcs and Humans). See here:

Powder (graphical Roguelike game)

Just made an RPM package for Powder ...
http://www.zincland.com/powder/index.php?pagename=about

It can be found / installed directly from here:
http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/ps3li ... group.html

Or if you're using the ps3bodega.repo, just yum install powder

It can be started from your Applications menu.

FSX and Crysis work via Mono 2.0.
Wii emulator works kind of fast too, with support of the WiiMote via Mono 2.0.
So PS3 can be an all in one Console?

Do I have to go back and forth into the System Setting menu all the time I switch from OtherOS to GameOS???
I just can't work out how to boot load...

Because I don't understand how you appear to be indicating that running a small x86-based LInux distro on QEMU under YDL6 on the PS3 and running Mono 2.0 on that ... this allows you to run such applications as a Wii emulator or DX10 games at an acceptable speed? Or even using the native PPC Linux version of Mono on YDL / PS3 ... ?

But feel free to elaborate. :)
