Open a terminal window and post the output of this command:

Code: Select all
ls -la /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200
Powermac G4 1.25 GHz x2, 2 GB RAM, YDL 6.2

It sounds like the symbolic link was created incorrectly. You should delete the symbolic link, and try the last few steps again.

Terminal window syntax for deleting the plugin - as root user - would be
rm /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so
It should ask you to confirm deletion of the symbolic link.

I deleted the link and redid it, same results. The about:plugins page shows no signs of Java.

You're typing it wrong, I think. Above - you listed this:
libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /opt/ibm/java-ppc-60/jre/plugin/ppc/na7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

It should be ns7, not na7. As in: /opt/ibm/java-ppc-60/jre/plugin/ppc/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

This is from the software developers package that I did not install with the OS, n'est pas? How do I install this from the YDL6 DVD package (this is the most compatible version I would guess). I am trying to limit how much extra stuff I install so what is the minimum here? Thanks.

Funny, mine installed that as a dependancy automatically.

Problem solved, just removed all the previous failures of links and set up new ones. Took 3 tries to make a new one but it worked.

Thanks guys.

New version:
ibm-java-ppc-jre-6.0-4.0.ppc.rpm (59.9MB)

Hope this works the same.

I've just tried to do this and everything seemed to go ok untill I checked the plugins list and only the "shockwave flash" was listed... ...no Java :|

I wonder if this is due to the fact that I followed the intructions provided despite me using YDL 6.1 and the Java version being ibm-java-ppc-jre-6.0-4.0.ppc.rpm instead of ibm-java-ppc-jre-6.0-0.0.ppc.rpm

Any help will be received appreciatively 8)

Edit: I deleted the symbolic link and retyped the code ensuring that it's inputted correctly but still no Java appearing in the plugins list :?

Just checked with that version and it seems to be OK ... about:plugins shows:

File name: libjavaplugin_oji.so

Thanks for that ...still no joy for me though.

Any idea why it's not showing for me? I'm certain that I followed the guide correctly.

Thanks

EDIT: Scratch that ...managed to sort it

Issues were down to me being a nitwit no surprise)

All works lovely ...I just didn't use the software installer on the downloaded file ...eejit

The link is in the first post of this thread. You will have to set up an account with IBM to download IBM Java.

We can't send you there directly, since IBM Java is not open source. It won't cost you anything though - it's free.

Hey, looks like a nice guide but IBM won't let me regristrer, I keep getting the same error over and over for the last few days.

Our apologies

Sorry, but we can't handle your request at the moment, please try again later.

Is there anyone who can help me with this?
I really do need java on my ps3.

I really cant seem to get past this error, is there anyone who doesn't ever use his IBM account and could give me the log in name and password to just let me download java and after that just change it?
I would be very pleased, if you want to please PM me :)
