Can someone try out a game or two on pogo.com and tell me if they work?

If they're Java, and they don't require 3D OpenGL (aka JOGL), they should work fine. The IBM Java is a real, Sun-licensed Java, not an open source clone.

I need someone to actually try it for me because I've been on machines where they should work fine before but didn't.

If I had to guess, and at the moment I do have to guess since I'm not at my PS3, they're not going to work. Looks like they are Flash games ... the couple of them I tried came up in Adobe Flash Player 9. I'm on my Centos 5.2 x86 machine right now and they work here, but with all our Flash troubles on the PS3 ... :roll: I wonder if they work in the Game OS, where we have Flash support but no Java?

Here's my problem

Installed IBM Java following the steps 1 by 1 , I can see it at the Add/Remove Software ... But , when I do " java -version " here's the result ;

Code: Select all
java version "1.4.2"
gij (GNU libgcj) version 4.1.1 20070105 (Red Hat 4.1.1-52.ydl.1)

Copyright (C) 2006 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

then tried " which java " to be sure that I did what you say ;
Code: Select all
/usr/local/bin/java

So , whats wrong with it , any ideas ? Should I remove 1.4.2 before IBM java installation ??

See this post by Paul for one way to deal with that. Depending on which version you have installed, the symbolic link may be different.

My guess is that you have a symbolic link in the /usr/local/bin directory that points to the wrong java. By default, neither gcj nor IBM's java creates a symbolic link there.

Check the post that I wrote that billb referenced in the previous post. :)

PSP3? You mean PS3?

We answered that question a couple of posts down:

For starters I am a real noob. I downloaded IBM file and when I try to install it i get an error message saying it is unable to retrieve software information because of a network connection issue. I tried to go through add/remove programs and as soon as i open the app i get a similar message and the program shuts down. My wireless network is operating just fine. Any ideas

What's the exact name of the IBM file you downloaded? Also - how are you trying to install it? (double click? command line? etc.)

The more details you provide, the more we can figure out what's going on. The error message you're getting is not normal.

I don't think I ever tried it -- but unlike with 64-bit versions of x86 applications, you wouldn't necessarily see a speed increase on PowerPC by using 64-bit vs 32-bit. Paul had a very good post on this somewhere, let's see if I can dig it up ...

Ah ... this post and a few other posts in that topic:

[MODERATOR EDIT: Please don't quote the entire post like that. No harm done - but it's really hard to follow. Instead, just post a reply with your update on the original thread. Thanks! Cheers, Paul]

I can confirm that RuneScape indeed works with java 5 in ydl 6.1.
