I had the same problem, using samsung 5 series 40" lcd tv, mode 3 and 131 were not working but when changed it to mode 11 in yaboot.conf, it is working spotless without new kernel on fresh install of ydl 6.0.

That's why I was wondering about the model # of the Sharp Aquos TV mentioned -- it looks like at least some models support some VESA modes when connected via HDMI.

VESA Modes:
11: wxga (1280 x 768)
12: sxga (1280 x 1024)
13: wuxga (1920 x 1200)
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200

The model number is LC32D44U. I will give the last suggestion a try and let you all know how it works out. Thanks.

Looks like mode 11 would work ... if there are problems with the screen not fitting in the visible area on the TV, use the "dot by dot" mode of the TV.

initially I had full screen problem, no matter which option I chose it always had black borders (while testing using ctrl+alt+f1 and f7) or mixed up screen

however I went ahead and edited config files choosing 131
did the rest and rebooted, and viola it was on full screen finally

I'm not sure if this has got something to do with samsung HDTVs or is an issue with YDL but if you ran into the same problem, give it a go

When installing YDL kboot provides you multiple resolution options. I was wondering if there is a way of adding alternate resolution options into yaboot so if one wanted to boot into either a HD video mode or a SD video mode all that would be required at start up is a hit of the tab key or maybe a command. I am interested this for two reasons; personally I would like to get a little better performance out of emulators when running fullscreen, I am also interested in giving other individuals the option at kboot so that if they are moving their ps3 between HD and SD sets they don't have to keep reediting yaboot.

YDL Killed by Firmware 3.30 but linux on my HDTV lives on!

Yes, there is a way to specify alternate resolution options in yaboot.

Oh yeah - I never get tired of that answer. ;) Here's a sample post that describes how to do it:
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3198

Even though it says in the post I haven't tried it - when I got YDL 6.0, I followed the procedure, and it worked fine.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Cheers,
Paul

Worked like a charm thanks a bunch. In 480i (mode 1) emulators particularly snes9x run at a smooth and consistent 60fps but I am stuck with the black borders as modes 129 and 130 create a good bit of cut off. My standard Mode 3 does not have the black borders and actually fills the screen I was hoping the the same would be true for mode 1. alas it is not the case. I suppose I will stick with mode 3 untill I get a new TV in that I get about the same screen size and performance running snes9x windowed in mode 3 as I do running it fullscreen in mode 1 (not to mention it looks a lot nicer in mode3). Its nice to have the option though so thanks again.

Hi! My very first YDL post :)

I`ve tried everything with minor luck regarding display resolution on my projector. Its an OLD projector that I`m running a vga cabel to (component to vga) and has its best resolution at 1024x768...(I think:P) Is there anyway to setup YDL to output anything else than 720x*** or 1280x*** to my projector? Mode 2 (or 130) is nice but everything is WAY to large and its about useless, mode 3 (or 131) is usable but then I get to small yres for my projector and 1280x720 is also a little bit to heavy for my projector. I`ve also tried mode 12, but that wouldn`t work :(

Are we stuck with either 720 or 1280 xres or is this changeable?
Either 1024x768 or 800x600 would work, but is it not possible?

Thomas

Not really - no. The PS3 is set to match TV & HDTV resolutions, not computer monitor resolutions.

So - 4:3 modes: 640x480, 720x576
16:9 modes: 1280x720, 1920x1080

are your only options.

The three VESA modes - wxga, sxga & wuxga - only work with HDMI, apparently.

Paul

First off t hanks for all the information in this thread! It has been very helpful. I have set my mode to 144 and I am now at 1920x1200 via hdmi. Everything looks very clear, better than any other resolution I have tried. The only problem is I have about 4 inches of overscan on all 4 sides. I'm not sure what to try to fix this. If I have to deal with the overscan I will but I was just wondering if there was a way to fine tune it a bit. Either way thanks for all of your help!! d

You might be able to fix that in your monitor. Look for a "one to one" setting or "full display", etc.

Thanks for the reply. I am on full display now. I did try one to one and it put black borders around the outside but also left the overscan problem. I think I will try a different mode number and see if i can get lucky. d
