I'm having quite an issue, I have a Phillips 1080i TV Model # 32PFL7332D (here's the pdf http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/32pf ... ss_aen.pdf).
I have followed the guide perfectly but the main problem I continuously run into is that if i don't zoom in using 720p/1080i I get black borders but if i do zoom the edges of the screen get cut off and I loose the Shelf.
I've tried 3,4, 131, 132, and 163.

Any ideas?

It sounds like your TV has the overscan issue as described under "Display Configuration" in this guide. If your TV doesn't have any settings that allow it to display a full 720p image within the visible area, you have to take care of the border using fbset. That's beyond the scope of this topic, but if that's the case I'll try to help with that.

And it worked like a charm, followed your directions exactly and only had a little bit of black border on the left and right sides...added 20 and it was great

I would like some assistance. I'm trying to get rid of the borders on my HD ready TV, and this is what I tried:

Code: Select all
ps3-video-mode

gives me:

3

But, when I try:

Code: Select all
ps3-video-mode -v 131

or

Code: Select all
ps3-video-mode -v 128

They are all too big, and when I use

Code: Select all
ps3-video-mode -?

It says "invalid option -- ?" and it mentions "you have new mail in /var/spool/mail/root"

I'm not sure what is going on?

Is it okay if I ignore everything and just configure yaboot to 131? Or maybe try complete diff mode-numbers? Seems like it works:

silniczek wrote:using samsung 5 series 40" lcd tv, mode 3 and 131 were not working but when changed it to mode 11 in yaboot.conf, it is working spotless

ez666 wrote:initially I had full screen problem, no matter which option I chose it always had black borders (while testing using ctrl+alt+f1 and f7) or mixed up screen

however I went ahead and edited config files choosing 131
did the rest and rebooted, and viola it was on full screen finally

For whatever reason () developers may occasionally change command-line options as development continues, and in this case it appears that -? is no longer supported and has been replaced by -h, so use that instead:

Code: Select all
ps3-video-mode -h

Whether you can use one of the non-bordered modes or not depends on your display. Some have settings to allow for display of a full 720p / 1080i/p image within the visible area and some don't. If you're stuck with a display without such an option you need to either use one of the bordered modes, or use the fbset fix (not described in this topic).

I'm having the strangest problem I have ever seen when using any kinda software. Okay, so I followed the instructions here, and changed my resolution to 1080p. Start the computer it looks all good, and I login. Now the resolution fits the screen and everything however, a bottom half part of my screen has a seperate wall paper as the 75 percent left of it. Also, my mouse cursor changes depending on what part of the screen on I am on. Also I can't right click, only left click on 75 percent of the screen, and the rest I can only right click. The 75 percent portion seems to be running enlightenment, and the rest seems to be running Gnome. I conclude this because left clicking on the 75 percent portion brings enlightenment like options (applications, run command, desktop), while on the smaller portion which I right click on seems to bring gnome-like "create folder" and "change background" options. WTF. How do I change this?

EDIT: Also, on the smaller portion, I can highlight just like GNOME, and my desktop icons are there. I can't high light in the larger portion, and there are no desktop icons, though there is an enlightenment bar.

EDIT2 : I tried something to see if I can fix it. I used session to login using GNOME and Enlightenment. Gnome did not have this said problem. Enlightenment acts like there is two environments.

As mentioned in the guide:

If you are using e17, you may need to use this menu item to fix your desktop alignment after changing resolution:

Windows > Cleanup Windows

I used the ps3-video-mode system to try and get a good resolution. But everything is really blocky and the text looks really rough. Even low quality youtube videos look, well, even worse. I've tried a couple different resolutions and so far only video mode 2 looks clear. But then the desktop is so squashed that it is pretty much unusable. I am using an HD tv (albeit a small one) and an HDMI connection. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you able to use a 720p mode (like 3, or 131 for fullscreen)?

When you say it looks blocky/rough, does it look anything like the pics here?

viewtopic.php?p=34964#p34964

Since PS3 FW 3.10 some users have been experiencing video problems as described in that topic. The problem is limited to certain displays connected via HDMI. A known workaround is to use component video cables if you have a connection for those on your display.

I wasn't able to use a 720p mode, full-screen or no on my HDMI cable. And yes those screenshots look exactly like my problem. So $15 later and a trip to Gamestop I have a set of composites and everything looks clear now. I guess I'll just use my HDMI cable for my 360 for the time being.

Thanks again.

I too have a 37" 1080p Sharp Aquos (as several others have mentioned) and my launch 60GB PS3 connected to it via HDMI and cannot get any 720p mode to work (blank screen and TV indicates a 480p signal). Since most PS3 games are 720p (and the TV even indicates switching to 720p for them), it seems very odd that in YDL, it would output a different 720p signal the TV can't recognize. I've tried all the 720p options for ps3-video-mode and get the same blank screen. 1080p isn't bad all the time, but it would be a little speedier and easier to read 10' away at 720p.

Unless I missed a post about it, has anyone found a fix for this (other than trying composite cables instead)? Is there any way to try tweaking the video driver output or is it permanently fixed at the specific mode options? Thanks!
