slightly off topic, looking at your printout of top you're not using a ps3 then, or are you ? 1031516k of memory, more than 4 times what I'm running
Code: Select all
Mem:    229624k total,   223412k used,     6212k free,      296k buffers
Swap:   778096k total,    17008k used,   761088k free,    51848k cached
so what's your secret ? :D

I'm running YDL 6.2 on a 1.67GHz Powerbook G4! The CPU is a RISC CPU with an Altivec; the PS3 has 2 of those. Here's how to get YDL to spill the beans:

Code: Select all
[aguila@arakus ~]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo|more
processor       : 0
cpu             : 7447A, altivec supported
clock           : 1666.666000MHz
revision        : 0.2 (pvr 8003 0102)
bogomips        : 36.73

total bogomips  : 36.73
timebase        : 18432000
platform        : PowerMac
model           : PowerBook5,6
machine         : PowerBook5,6
motherboard     : PowerBook5,6 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh
detected as     : 287 (PowerBook G4 15")
pmac flags      : 0000001b
L2 cache        : 512K unified
pmac-generation : NewWorld
[aguila@arakus ~]$

There has been a bit of discussion that despite the hardware differences because we are within the same family of processors the code written within YDL will run on your PS3, my G4 and other PowerPC computers which run YDL. You can find one such discussion here:

Cool background, huh? That's from the method described here:

I use GNOME instead as it's the default desktop environment for RHEL/CentOS.Well,the language is Chinese.

I also use LXDE in fedora 11&12 on my PS3 because the default desktop environment GNOME is much more resource needed than LXDE.Also,LXDE can really give you a good system running with a not bad speed.
