Hiya!

Say - sun - do you have the original version of the 1.5.3 patch you uploaded? We've got some users having wicd issues, and I'd love to have them try that original version to rule out a few things.

If you could attach it with a slightly different name as a follow-up post in this thread, that would be great.

Cheers,
Paul

Here is the OLD patch, for those wanting to try it. The code that was changed in the original patch has not really been touched in the updated patch. Rather I modified other areas to allow for the correct parsing and return of the output of iwlist and iwconfig. I also added comments for those paranoid individuals, like myself, looking to see what I did.

For YDL6.1 users, if the new v1.5.3 patch doesn't work I doubt the original patch would work as well, but you're welcome to try. Anyone running Fedora 10 will NOT have any luck with the old patch, as wicd will connect but drop the connection 12-14 seconds after getting an IP address.

wicd v1.5.3 (original patch)
wnettools_oldpatch.py.tar.gz
wnettools.py v1.5.3 - extract and place in /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/wicd/

What is the error you're getting? We may not have seen it before.

Paul. I'm in the middle of reinstalling YDL6.1. i can't get the exact error message but from memory it said "WICD EXECUTION ERROR" at the top and said something about not being able to start since there was no specific WICD boot file or something of the sort. What i've done so far in the reinstallation is checked the box for wlan0 and chcked the following boxes as well: OFFICE PRODUCTIVITY, SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, WEB SERVER. it's checking the dependencies now. in my past installations i have tried using the 1.5.3 version on the first page of this thread. i also tried 1.5.9 just hoping. i know my version is 1.5.3 because before it gets corrupted i check to make sure. what am i doing wrong?

It's my current thinking that the new patch has issues with 1.5.3. Try the older patch:
download/file.php?id=73

This is working on my stock YDL 6.1 system. (I'm using it now.)

MY BAD!!!!!

When creating the tarball I grabbed the wrong file for the 1.5.3 patch. I have uploaded the correct version. For anyone who has downloaded the updated 1.5.3 patch prior to this post, just sweep it into your recycle bins and download it again.

Can I just replace the file in...... /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/wicd/

will that fix the error or do i need to reinstall YDL?

and Sun please show me the link/location for the correct 1.5.3 for 6.1

 Thanks Guys

Yes - you can just replace the file. That should fix the error.

If you go back up to my previous post, you can find a link to the old patch. Also - sun is working on a fix in newer patch. Check the top of this thread for details on that one.

Also - you don't have to re-install YDL. However - if you copy over the file, that isn't quite enough.

You need to either manually restart the wicd service - or just reboot.

To manually start the service - become root user from a terminal window and type the following:

su -
service wicd start

There was an issue with the 1.5.3 patch. It prevented the wicd service from starting, and that led to the errors you were seeing. That should be fixed with the 1.5.3 patch in the very first post of this thread, which I'll verify. However - if you want to wait for me to test it, you can use this one in the interim:
download/file.php?id=73
