I have just installed YDL6.1. I can't get WPA2 working and get the same issue (hangs at obtaining IP Address).

I followed the instructions here for 1.5.3 patch and it didn't work. I did back up the file before overwriting it.

I have copied the old file back over and it now doesn't work at all.

Hmmm, any advice anyone? I have not used Linux before so am very short on options.

Yes, I followed those instructions (backing up and copying over the 'wnettools.py' file). WICD wouldn't now load without errors.

It didn't work so I logged back in as root, deleted the file and copied the old one back and WICD wouldn't load.

To get back to square one I reinstalled YDL again last night so back to a fresh install.

I'll try following these instructions again, maybe I did something wrong.....

arrrggghh - copied over the file again and rebooted.

Run WICD and click connect (using WPA2PSK). It flashes 'putting interface down' and goes back to the connect screen.

Am I doing something wrong here???

I also have followed the above instructions, to the letter i think, and I am getting the smame thing as you. Wicd says "Putting interface down" when i hit connect on my access point in WICd and it just goes back to the connect screen saying not connected.

Dave

Any help would be appreciated

Do you have any interfaces installed/configured in the old Networking Configuration panel? You might try making sure all interfaces are deleted from there...

wicd is very new to me - I haven't messed around with it as much.

Can you try something simpler on your access point to test? Like, regular WPA?

**UPDATE**

Big update this time. I also tried wicd v1.5.9 hoping for some luck, and again was disappointed. :? Looking deeper into wnettools.py, I've found the reason I was unable to keep the connection active on Fedora 10. It's the same reason that we all are getting "connected at 0%". So I killed both birds with the same code. 8) So now it connects, stays connected (on Fedora), and reports the correct signal strength. Great news for any Fedora 10 users that have happened to stumble onto this thread. These files will replace the ones in my first post, and I will update it with the new versions. If you have downloaded my previous patches, I'd highly recommend getting these new versions. Again, download the version appropriate for your wicd client and follow the instrictions in my first post. And, please, return and post of your success of failure.

Note: Fedora 10 users should be advised that the modified wnettools.py file should be copied to /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/wicd/

Hi Sun,

I tried all the patches from 1.5.3 till now, and this version 1.5.9 worked for me from the first try with WPA encryption.
Here are the steps that I followed:

1. Downloaded wicd distribution:
cd /usr/local/src
wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/wicd/wicd-1.5.9.tar.gz
tar -xf wicd-1.5.9.tar.gz
cd wicd-1.5.9
python setup.py configure
python setup.py install
2. Replaced wnettools.py with the version from wnettools.py.tar.gz v1.5.9 mentioned in this discussion thread
3. Reboot

After re-start go to Wicd and click Connect.
