Hatari blank screen

Postby Cripper » 07 Jan 2009, 19:49

I have tried the Hatari emulator installed with the 6.1 installation (it is on the games menu). I only get a blank screen it does not boot into the Atari desktop. The best I got was when I changed the tos rom from the supplied one and now I get a blank screen with two bombs. Has anybody got this emulator to work with 6.1 on a ps3? Does it need some extra libraries installed?

I've used it before but not much lately (I was an "Amiga guy") ... will look into it when I have a chance.

Thanks for the reply. I posted about this problem on atari-forum and someone found a solution. You need to turn off the slower but more compatible setting in then 'system' setup dialog Apparently there are some problems with GCC 4.1 on PowerPC based machines. It works great now but you need to change the rom version to tos 1.0 to be more compatible with games.

BTW, if you compile the latest version of Hatari (v1.3.1 instead of v1.0.1), it has the same blank screen issue if you have 'Slower but more compatible CPU' on...though it works if you have 68010/68020/68040 CPU selected. Also, the same option being turned on seems to cause TOS 1.04 to crash.

Anyway, regarding v1.3.1... I originally looked for an RPM of it for Fedora, but the ones available (either ppc or ppc64) required some newer library files than what YDL 6.2 has available, so I downloaded the source and just ran make w/o altering anything and it made a working executable. I only tested the basic operation w/ multiple TOS versions and it seemed to work as expected...not sure if the extended video options and whatnot work right, but even though it says Falcon emulation is incomplete, I was surprised Falcon mode on a 68040 CPU and TOS 4.04 ROM came up w/ a desktop and even loaded some standard ST software OK. I also find it odd they have 68040 emulation, but no 68030.

I don't know how to make RPMs (the instructions seem rather involved for a simple program), but I made a tar.gz file of the contents of one of the Fedora RPMs substituting the hatari binary and writing a quick install text file. If anyone doesn't want to compile it themselves, here's a MEGAUPLOAD link to the tar.gz file I made:

Hatari 1.4.0

Postby xnonsuchx » 12 Sep 2010, 23:02

Here's the newest Hatari v1.4.0 (binary only since I haven't figured out RPM creation myself):

Compiled as-is: http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/ps3li ... ly.tar.bz2

Compiled w/ PS3 controller button fix (thanks to billb): http://pleasantfiction.ipower.com/ps3li ... ly.tar.bz2

The second one includes a change to the joy.c source file to use 'X' and 'Square' on the PS3 SIXAXIS/DUALSHOCK3 (and compatible). The left analog stick is used for movement...didn't find an easy way to change the source to use the D-pad instead.
