Solving problems with Installing Software

Hello,
Yesterday I installed yd 6.1. Unhappy with the interface I decided to install fluxbox. I was exhausted had no clue what I was doing and the result was now upon start up I receive an error stating: Cannot open theme file/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/CentOSCubes.
The sign in screen is striped down and when I log in whether it be E17, default or another option I notice the gui is all messed up. No files on the desktop, no status bar, i cannot open folders because the program will not load to do so. I am completely ignorant to linux and am in need of help to get it fully functional. All help is greatly appreciated.

Well... your repos like fine. But I don't really have any idea what's going on with your login screen / desktop environment or what exactly you did to get there. Considering you just installed yesterday, I'd just start over and reinstall (no need to format the drive from the Game OS or use the "Install OtherOS" option again, just insert DVD and reinstall).

While installing Java 6 I ran into the following error from Software Installer:

Unable to retrieve software information.

This could be caused by not having a network connection available.

Then I ran Add/Remove programs. Same thing.

Then I tried to install unrar from the terminal, resulting in this:

I temporarily disabled the Fedora Extras repo which allowed Software Installer to run for my Java 6 install.

Comment out (add a #) the mirrorlist line and uncomment (remove the #) the baseurl line on the fedora-extras.repo.

I read that you should not have ydl net chosen if you dont have an account. I dont, so if that's the culprit, how do I get off that ydl net? Thanks. (Not dissing ydl, but I REALLY miss Ubuntu!)

When yum says "Nothing to Do" then it either can't find what you're trying to install, or it's already installed. In this case I'm guessing it just can't find it ... unrar is included in the Livna software repo. See here for setup instructions:

I should probably have used a different application that's actually included in YDL's default repos for that example.

OK, but I would recommend manually excluding packages from fedora-extras in case protectbase fails. And I usually leave gpgcheck=0, though gpgcheck=1 is OK if you've imported the key.

Dribble for FC6 is OK, though there are more things that work for us from Dribble's Fedora 7 packages than FC6 (with the exception of vice C64 emulator). And again, gpgcheck=0 unless you've imported the key.
