Sorry not sure where exactly in the thread it shows the fixes for this.

1. WHy has this happened?
2. Will Sony release a firmware update which will fix this??
3. What can I do now to make the screen look clear??

The quick summary:

1. We're guessing that Sony probably included a newer version of the video drivers for the RSX from nVidia. This nVidia driver apparently asks for extended HDMI information from displays. Unfortunately, these displays - generally 1st generation HDMI - appear to have bad extended data. Garbage In - Garbage Out.

2. Unclear.

3. Use a newer display ;) or switch to component video.

Paul

No - I mean a new display. A new TV. A whole new monitor. As in - throw out your old one.

For some reason, this is not a popular option. :D

Doesn't appear to, no. And - the cables have nothing to do with it. It's the HDMI chips in the sets themselves, unfortunately.

Is component video an option? Not composite, S-video or SCART - but component. That's generally a 5 Wire - 3 video (Y, Cr, Cb) & 2 audio (L, R) cable.

That works very well for most folks.

Paul

If your TV has HDMI, chances are it has Component as well. It's only the HDMI computer monitors that don't.

As for the cables - I bought the PS3 Sony cables - $19.99 US from Sony Style:

These seem to be capable of 1080p.

It's the same cable as the PS2 component cable so if you have one of those, you're good to go as well.

Just make sure it's a high-quality PS2 component cable. I had a cheap one that, although it worked with the PS3, looked terrible at anything much higher than 480p. :D
