Tobe wrote:Of course Paul, you're right. But what scares me is that SONY might not be much interested in fixing seldom bugs on some "exotic" functionality they have abandoned long before (PS2 compatibility) or shortly (Linux). And when you imagine that these bugs only happen on specific hardware (some TV sets), it gets even worse...
Tobe wrote:The first thing I was aware when getting the information of the lost support for Linux on the new PS3 was that I have to be extremely careful with firmware updates in the future. But that this thing could happen so soon (just the first update after introducing the PS3 Slim) wasn't even in my imagination!
Tobe wrote:Now I hope you guys and girls keep your Linux partitions a bit longer so they really got a chance to fix this. And remember: We all have paid for a console with promised compatibility for PS2 and Linux! So essentially they have to fix this!!!

Do you have easy access to another HDMI monitor that you could try this PS3 on? Possibly a newer one that implements a later revision of the HDMI spec? It's a big ask, I know, but I'd be curious to see if this is strictly a PS3 issue - or a PS3/HDTV issue.
Cheers,
Paul
