I'd love for either to work
anyone prove me wrong and got it working ?

I believe there's still a bug with USB audio -- see here:

viewtopic.php?p=34027#p34027

If it has been fixed by now we'd still need a way to get the fix into YDL.

Err... that's certainly news to me ... you're saying the PS3 Eye works "out of the box" in vlc?

Re: skype, I don't believe there's a PPC Linux version -- looks like the solution is to use Ekiga, get an account with Gizmo, and use their Skype gateway as described here: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=4153&st=160

I'd much rather you tell me anything special needed to get it working on YDL 6.2 / PS3 than waste time posting a youtube video on it. :P Any time I've tried using it before in Ekiga it has always just locked up the system. I did just get a new PS3 Eyetoy the other day since my old one died (possibly a spilled beer incident ).

EDIT: last time we talked about this ... viewtopic.php?p=20108

And I see it's supposed to be supported now ... http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g ... 91f93d70d4

Never said it worked out the box, Just said I have it working :D

I made the video just to show people it actually works, I posted the steps needed to get it working around a year ago, I guess no one ever gave it a shot! So perhaps a little video of it working will incourage others, I am going to install Ekiga never used it I been using it with vlc though.

Basically all you need to do is compile a kernal with support for gspca, You can get a patch for ov534.c which will add the support for the ps3 eye toy.

This is nothing new, It's been working for a long time now and I have posted the steps I performed to get it working.

Here is the video of ps3 eyetoy working under vlc on YDL 6.2 sorry if the quality is lower quicker upload times :)

Will have to see if we still have those steps somewhere or if they got lost in one of the transitions... I had forgotten about that. If it required a kernel build I probably wouldn't have tried it back then. I'd like to work on this a bit and provide a kernel rpm so everyone can use it (easily) now, though.

Let me know if you have any luck with ekiga -- the trouble I've had with it, just using a USB microphone or the Eyetoy as audio input, is that it seems to lock up the system as soon as I test input. Same thing with Audacity.

Do you have a working copy of ekiga? Save me some time on testing if I don't have to compile it!!

Code: Select all
yum install ekiga

:P

All I could find in your posts re: the Eyetoy was this here:
viewtopic.php?p=23533#p23533

But if that's all you need to do I guess that's enough detail... and I guess we don't need a patch for it anymore (http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/g ... 91f93d70d4)

I thought I posted something with a little more detail, But your right that should be enough for a experienced member to get it up and working, Nice now the needed gspca and ov534.c are inlcuded into the kernel, makes it a lot easier to build a kernel with a working gspca module with the ov534.c driver...

Fails do you have this on ydl 6.2 repo system?
Code: Select all
[root@localhost Jaybps3]# yum install ekiga
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Nothing to do

Hmmm... is it already installed and just missing a menu option?

Code: Select all
rpm -q ekiga

I have it from the default YDL repos.

Wow now I feel like a moron lol, I guess it's pre installed with YDL 6.2? I am creating a voip account and then gonna test it out!

Update I do have Ekiga installed and the VOIP works flawlessly, I just made a call on it and it works fine. I have to get someone else with this setup to try the VIDEO CONFERENCE but it works like a charm for me! :D

In order to use ekiga pc-to-phone service you will have to create and add money to an account, Otherwise all that works is pc-to-pc calls!

You know I think I have been the 1st to get a lot of things working on YDL, I remember when I set out to install it for the 1st time, One things certain when you know how to research and get around on a windows pc, It makes it so much easier to merge over to linux and be able to locate needed dependencies and such.

I guess we can now officially say VOIP does work on the ps3 and the ps3 eye toy microphone is sufficient to do the job! I tested a call from my ps3 to my laptop with fedora on it and ekiga installed. Call went through fine and audio was working fine too, There is even an equalizer to adjust the sound input from the microphone. Software is pretty nice and all this time never heard of it or knew it came pre installed!

I hadn't tried this in quite a while since my Eyetoy was broken -- glad I got this new one. Yes, as far as the microphone part it seems to be working fine -- no lockups like when I had tried it before (maybe on YDL 6.1?). Awesome!

So for the video part, we just need to provide an updated kernel rpm with a gspca module and it will load automatically when you plug in the Eyetoy?

Yes the module loading and unloading is automatic. as long as the viewer used supports the output format of the camera your all good. The kernel module for gspca needs built with ov534.c support, In the kernel config menu you will see under gspca webcam support or something just make sure the ov534 is selected as a M and it will work just fine. Perhaps you already have a working spec file, so putting up a kernel with support for this gspca wont be very difficult?

Yes -- we'd just work from the updated kernel src.rpm for YDL 6.2 here:

http://ydl.oregonstate.edu/updates/yell ... .4.src.rpm

Put that in your rpmbuild/SRPMS and install with rpm (rpm -ivh kernel-2.6.29-3.ydl61.4.src.rpm) and you'll have the spec in your SPECS folder. Then replace the 64-bit kernel config in your SOURCES with the modified version and rebuild the kernel rpm from the spec (no need to do setarch ppc since you want 64-bit).

So do I need to do setarch ppc64 as apposed to setarch or just skipping setarch it will auto configure for ppc64? Another note, I wont have to edit any of the spec or anything? I just need to replace the .config file? then build with the spec in the above package?
