You'll need to create and modify the config file for sdlmame. This goes in your home folder in a hidden directory (~/.mame). So, create the folder and the config file (do this under your regular username, not root):
- Code: Select all
cd ~
- Code: Select all
mkdir .mame
- Code: Select all
cd .mame
- Code: Select all
mame -createconfig
You should now have a mame.ini file in your current folder. Edit it with gedit or your favorite text editor:
- Code: Select all
gedit mame.ini
There are a lot of options here, but the most important ones to set are:
rompath -- enter the full path to the folder where you keep your ROM files, something like /usr/share/mame/roms or /home/phil/roms for example
autoframeskip 1
multithreading 1
video soft
joystick 1
sixaxis 1Also, you can specify the rompath from the command line when launching mame ... for example if the rom file were on your desktop, you could say:
mame -rompath ~/Desktop gamenameReplacing "gamename" with the game you want to run of course, as in
mame -rompath ~/Desktop dkong
