USB-joystick doesn't work

Postby blooie » 14 Mar 2010, 04:35

Hi, complete Newbie here. By following the instructions on this forum I have sucessfully installed YDL 6.2 and sdlmame. Games are working great with the keyboard, but can't get USB-joystick working. I have two different usb-joystick, both plug and play for Ps3/PC. I don't think YDL is even recognizing it. I've also did the yum update and yum install joystick. Nothing works though.

Please help me out if possible. I've searched the forum but most if not all are Sixaxis related. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are a couple of ways to test that your joystick(s) are working:

First, open a terminal window (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) and see what joysticks you have in the /dev/input directory by entering the following command:
Code: Select all
ls /dev/input

Joystick devices will be listed as js0, js1 etc...

Method one:
Code: Select all
cat /dev/input/js0

Replace js0 with the one you want to test. If the joystick is working you should see "gibberish" on the screen when you move the sticks or press the buttons. Gibberish is good, no gibberish is bad. :geek: Press Ctrl-C to exit.

Method two (better):
Code: Select all
jstest /dev/input/js0

Again, replace js0 with the one you want to test. You should get a screen full of text showing all the various axes and buttons reacting to your analog sticks and buttons. Press Ctrl-C to exit.

If you're not seeing any joysticks listed in /dev/input, look at the output of this command right after plugging one in:

Code: Select all
dmesg | tail
PS3 60GB [CECHA01], FW 3.15, YDL 6.2, Samsung T260HD @ 1920x1200
Powermac G4 1.25 GHz x2, 2 GB RAM, YDL 6.2

I'm also running into this problem. I'm seeing 4 joysticks in the /dev (0-3) but non are associated with the USB I plugged in. the dmesg looks like this:
usb 3-2.4: can't set config #1, error -32
usb 3-2.3: USB disconnect, address 6
usb 3-2.3: new full speed USB device using ps3-ehci-driver and address 8
usb 3-2.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
input: Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller as /class/input/input6
sony 0003:054C:0268.0007: input,hiddev97,hidraw5: USB HID v1.11 Joystick [Sony PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller] on usb-sb_05-2.3/input0
usb 3-2.4: USB disconnect, address 7
usb 3-2.4: new low speed USB device using ps3-ehci-driver and address 9
usb 3-2.4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 3-2.4: can't set config #1, error -32

any ideas?
