No sound in user, only in root

Hi! My sound only works when i am as root not when a login in my useraccount.

Its a fresh installed yellow dog 6.2 and i have done the yum update.

What need i to do? step to step guide please, im a n00b.

Never seen that before ... do you have any USB headsets or PS3 cameras plugged in? Sometimes when you have a USB headset plugged in the audio output will get switched over to the headset.

From where are you testing sound?

im using hdmi.
And the only thing thats plugin is usb-mouse and usb-keyboard.
The sound-control, i can hear the sound when its testing.

But in youtube and mp3 files there is no sound. :S
In root its work perfect

I'm looking at a similar issue in this thread.

I'm guessing you can use chmod to fix this. (You'll have to do this from your normal login, then su in the terminal window to temporarily become root)

billb - it has to do with some process reserving /dev/dsp for root. Possibly an audio driver. Is there anything about 6.2 - or any custom apps in the bodega - that might be settting this?

I see ... I'm not aware of any apps that would do that, though. Also, it's supposed to be a fresh install of YDL that has been updated:

Also, you could try creating a new user and see if it behaves the same way ...

Become root:

seems my account baka dont have have de premission to the sound.

I wonder if the zerogame script made some change that causes this? I don't see anything unusual in the yum.log and I if it were a commonly installed package from ps3bodega we'd be seeing a lot more of this issue.

I think to fix this, as Paul suggested in the other topic, you could use the chown command. That would go like this:

chown yourusername /dev/dsp

(replace with your actual username)

exit

I believe that would change yourusername to being the owner and the group would remain root
