does anyone know where i can find it. im trying to use cinelerra and it needs this lib and i cant find it anywhere. help would be appreciated. thank you.

when you build x264 from source that shared object lib is also built, or install x264 from the repos.
It is located in /usr/lib or /usr/local/lib

locate libx264.so

will show what version you have.
libx264.so.54 is quite old I have libx264.so.92, x264 is updated regularly and sometimes has some compatibility issues with mplayer and ffmpeg.

there's a ppc version from fedora 6 which "should" be ok,
