HowTo: Backup YDL 6.2???

Postby otakusupreme » 08 May 2010, 03:35

im not sure on how to do this... what im wanting to do is to set my ps3 to only use 10 GB while my other os will use the rest. can someone show me the process of how to back up yellow dog as i don't really feel like going through the hassle of creating and compiling over again? is it as simple as copying the file system to my external hdd or is it more extensive than that? i imagine id have to log in as root to do so. any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Generally, I only backup the /home & /root directories, and do a fresh install of YDL for the rest. This isn't as heinous as it sounds - most of your YDL personality is in your /home directory.

There's a post I made about the built-in Unix backup utility tar here:

and a couple of other methods here:

Ditto, that's what I did when moving from 6.0 to 6.1 and then 6.2 and now to Fedora 12 on x86.

Yep, I just tarred em up, directly to external drive and then un-tarred them back once the install was finished.
