PS3 controller as mouse

I have been looking through this forum for a little while on solutions to make my ps3 controller work as a mouse in ydl, and i have tried many things but none of them have been working. i have tried installing the xorg joystick drivers and editing my xorg.conf file but it still does nothing. I tried editing the xorg.conf file to use the mouse driver, but that just makes the cursor randomly go around the screen whenever i press anything on the controller. I have tested the controller and it works in jstest, but no matter how i edit my xorg.conf it never works. I have been trying to get this to work for hours. any help would be greatly appreciated!
