Can I unpack the jars on another Linux
platform and just copy the files to my PS3?

Yes. Sorry - should have been more clear - that's what you're going to have to do.

I finally got access to a 386 computer running Linux and I unpacked the Sun's
jar files and copied them to my PS3:

% find /opt -name jsse.jar
=> /opt/ibm/java-ppc-60/jre/lib/jsse.jar
=> /opt/sun/jre1.6.0_21/lib/jsse.jar
% cmp -s /opt/ibm/java-ppc-60/jre/lib/jsse.jar /opt/sun/jre1.6.0_21/lib/jsse.jar && echo EQ
=> EQ

However, adding jsse.jar did not make any difference. Should it be in another directory?
