Sure - just like any other Linux, if you load the right software.
The trick is that you'll need to connect an external USB CD/DVD burner to the PS3, just as billb mentioned in the post above. The PS3 internal drive is read-only - it can't burn discs.
Also - it will have to be a drive that Linux recognizes. I'm not sure which brands are supported or not.
