nero is closed source I believe, hence having to pay for it. Also its doesn't have a ppc version that will work on the ps3, regardless unless your hooking up an external burner, the ps3's drive is not capable of writing to disc's. sorry dude. I've read of alternatives for linux but can't recall the names of programs right now (google is our friend)

cheers,

The file manager (nautilus) on YDL 6.2 has CD burning capabilities already ... just click on Places in the menu and select CD/DVD Creator, or if you're burning an .iso file just right-click and burn to disc. And yes, of course you'll need an external USB CD/DVD burner. I have one but it has been quite a while since I used it with my PS3. An external DVD drive also allows you to play encrypted DVD movies.

Sure - just like any other Linux, if you load the right software.

The trick is that you'll need to connect an external USB CD/DVD burner to the PS3, just as billb mentioned in the post above. The PS3 internal drive is read-only - it can't burn discs.

Also - it will have to be a drive that Linux recognizes. I'm not sure which brands are supported or not.

Cheers,

One of my favorite working apps is Xcdroast. It is flexible and extensible meaning that it will use the HD storage space you allocate for it for storing video images during the copy process from originals to archive copies (the DVD-RW/R target disk). Given the storage limits of the PS3, utilizing Xcdroast efficiently requires some serious planning of the available storage capacity of the internal HD or external HD which Xcdroast is to utilize. Once you've got that however you've got a serious video/audio transfer system especially for the programmers here because Xcdroast is open source it is quite capable of being rewritten to take advantage of the Altivec processors, as well as all those SPEs you PS3 users have!!

I thought that it was important to bring out the flexibility of xcdroast because it really is an outrageously useful app!!
