Auto power on after power loss

Is it possible to make the PS3 turn on automatically after a power failure and boot back into Linux?
Even a hardware hack may be acceptable if it is really necessary.
I have held back on the system updates to maintain my OtherOS functionality and to use it as a little server.

I'm not aware of any method for doing that -- seems like a hardware mod would be necessary. Maybe you should get a UPS instead.
