Postby clem58 » 05 Oct 2010, 19:46

I tried to enter my root password to -day but it it not being recognised, thing is i know what my password is which makes it even more frustrating. Can it be replaced or retrieved, or would it be better to reinstall the disc. I have YDL6.2 on the ps3. thanks for replies. :(

No need to reinstall -- here's how to reset it:

1. Reboot

2. At the kboot prompt, press the TAB key once before it autostarts (you'll have about 5 seconds) to bring up the default kernel option, then add a space and the word single then press ENTER

3. Eventually you'll arrive at a # prompt. To change the root password, enter this command:

Code: Select all
passwd root

It should go something like this:

passwd root

Changing password for user root.
New UNIX password: [enter new root password]
Retype new UNIX password: [enter new root password]
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

Then reboot -- you're done!
