Hi Nobody!

There are many ways to examine nearly any problem but for simplicity I'll reduce it to two different problems which can be related.

  • The color sequence you use in your video is not allowing you to see the text. You will have to examine both the monitor you use for the color output and balance. It is possible that your monitor is producing text but you cannot see it. I understand from your previous postings that you are using a standard TV. TVs and computer monitors are not using the same technologies to control their visual output. Without getting into too much detail the TV just cares about you being able to see whatever programs are being broadcast to you. A computer monitor sends visual information to your eyes as well as sending data the computer understands via specific ports to your computer. The age of your TV can also be a problem if you can't find or get the right cables so that your TV and computer communicate in a sensible way.

You will also have to examine your software settings for video within YDL, you can do this by going to the System menu then move to the Display application, or System --> Display. Review your settings.

  • The last possibility is that you have installed an incomplete version of YDL, which means that you are missing major system components of many different applications. This also means that you'll have go return to download the YDL .iso again, test the download you finally acquire using the SHA1SUM test and make sure that the SHA1SUM value defined by Fixstars matches the SHA1SUM value of the YDL .iso file you downloaded, then after that you'll have to burn your DVD to create a fresh and new working YDL install disk. Then you'll have to use that to reinstall YDL onto your hard-drive!

Good Luck...

that looks like an XMMS based player...odds are you've not installled all the X11 fonts that the XMMS based players use. Had a similar issue where highlighted menu items would turn the highlight color and you wouldn't see the words that's how I recognized it. Turns out I was missing the bold X11 fonts IIRC. On fedora you'd install:

Code: Select all

xorg-x11-fonts-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-1-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-14-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-14-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-15-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-15-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-2-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-2-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-9-100dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ISO8859-9-75dpi.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-Type1.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-cyrillic.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-ethiopic.noarch
xorg-x11-fonts-misc.noarch

You can try taking a shotgun to the problem with a:
Code: Select all
yum install xorg-x11-fonts*
