ydl6 480i graphical mode on ps3 help

hi im not to bad with computers but this is my first experiance with linux
i did a text install as i only have my ps3 connected to a sdtv and then followed the guide on the terrasoft site for switching to graphical mode,
but when i did all i see on the screen is a white _ in the top left corner!
i tried pressing ctrl+alt+F1 and logging in then used the command "ps3-video-mode -v 1" to switch back to what it was set to in the first place, the screen flickered as if it was changing resolutions but i still only get the "_"
i also tried mode 6 and got 1 line of text at the bottom
i dont wanna have to reinstall again!
can anyone help
