I haven't seen that one before ... what USB devices do you have plugged in?

This is a long shot, but you could try using a different version of the bootloader. Here's a link to the one found on the Cell Addon CD. Click on the link, then right-click and save the otheros.bld file. Put that on some sort of media (USB flash, compact flash, SD, MS, CD, etc) in this exact location:

/PS3/otheros/otheros.bld

Then insert the media while in the game OS and use the Install OtherOS function again (same as you did with the YDL 6 DVD). This installs to the PS3's flash memory and overwrites the bootloader you've already installed. Then boot to OtherOS and try the install again.

If this doesn't work and you want to go back to the YDL bootloader, just follow the procedure again with the YDL 6 DVD.

Since I haven't seen any reports of this I'm guessing it could possibly be an issue with your YDL 6 install DVD, but again I really don't have an idea of why it's doing that.

I think it must be a fairly rare problem ... perhaps you should try asking on the YellowDog mailing lists -- they are monitored more closely by Terrasoft. They are located here:

USB is unstable.

When the problem occurs in USB, it is made to recognize by being reconnected after it pulls it out.

Just wondering if anyone has discovered anymore about this?

I am having the same problem with my 40GB PS3.

The link to the alternative boot loader above no longer seems to be valid but I have attempted to use one from an Ubuntu ps3 install disk, this works for Ubuntu but not YDL but that was not a suprise.

Also in the tutorial it states:

" The bootloader kboot is displayed on-screen. Before the installer times-
out, select one of the options (below) to match the highest resolution
capability of your monitor."

but I am not prompted with this option, instead I have to enter the "install_ps3_1080p" command from the KBOOT prompt. I have also tried 1080i with the same results.

I have a wired logitech USB keyboard attatched but have had the same problem with alternative keyboards.

I have searched through the mailing lists but could not find anything.

If anybody can help I would be very grateful as seeing YDL was what persuaded me to buy a PS3 in the first place.

When it does that, have you tried unplugging and plugging in the keyboard again as suggested by Yoshikazu Matsumoto?

Sorry forgot to mention that, yes I have tried and no it doesn't make any difference. I have also tried booting up without any keyboard in and then plugging it in when it reaches kboot and also unplugging it straight after entering the install command. None of these have made any difference.

What about posting in the Terrasoft mailing lists about it? (I'm too lazy to check and see if you already have ... :P). I don't think too many people end up having this issue so I don't know if you'll find a solution here or not. Good luck!

Hello

Is there any update in regards to this?

I have the same error. I believe this is an error more at the PS3 / Linux as it is 'uninstalling' the actual USB port. I have tried YDL 6.1, and am trying 6.0 tonight. Going to use a DVD-RW as I have a feeling this isn't going to be a quick fix

Something in the back of my brain suggests that you're actually failing somewhere else. You're seeing the last status message before the freeze, not the actual freeze.

Just to be sure - you've allocated 10 gig for OtherOS from the PS3's XMB, right? Along those lines - have you installed Linux on this hard disk before?

(I'm not saying I have an answer here - just trying to eliminate some variables.)

Cheers,
Paul
