PowerBook Installation Issue

Postby Z3K3 » 09 Aug 2004, 20:01

Hello,

While installing YDL 3.0.1, during the Installing Packages, for a "workstation", it hangs on unzip-5.50-33. I shutdown the machine, restarted, removed partitions, restarted, re-installed, "workstation", and it still hangs on that file. Any thoughts? Should I burn a new install cd?

thanks

update..

I did a fn+ctrl+option+F4, and it states

* IOError 5 occurred copying unzip-5.50-33.ppc.rpm: Input/output error

I'll try re-downloading and re-burning the installation cd.

also check your image with the md5sum to verify that the download is correct.

Postby Z3K3 » 09 Aug 2004, 20:23

[z3k3@localhost xcd-temp]$ md5sum -c md5sum
yellowdog-3.0.1-sirius-20031118-install1.iso: OK

I'm going to re-burn the ISO, i'll slow down the burner a bit, and try again.. will post results.

coaster after coaster...

Postby Z3K3 » 09 Aug 2004, 22:22

Well.. I downloaded the ISO again, reburned it using XCD-Roaster, made 5 coasters (linux sees them, but they wouldnt boot on the PowerBook. Finally got one to boot.. it froze up on a different file... I even copied the ISO onto the PowerBook (OSX) and tried to burn a cd, it failed through the verification process...

Getting stressed.. going to re-download all three ISO's on OSX and attempt to burn again.

if the md5sum check is right on the download i would guess that there is a trouble
with burning the images.
do you have a friend who can burn them using linux. or a different writer.
maybe you also have trouble with your cd drive or the cd's you use?

Solution...

Postby Z3K3 » 10 Aug 2004, 14:43

To anyone who is interested:

The problem with my burned cd's not booting or failing on missing files had something to do with burning the ISO's under linux (fedora). To fix the problem I re-downloaded the ISO's onto my OSX machine and they burned perfect.

YDL 3.0.1 now installed! :D
