YDL will eat me,, please help me!!????

Hi..
I have Linux YDL 5.0 on my PS3,
I downloaded Flash player 9 for Linux, but when I wrote in terminal for insalling it I found error messege like this ..[ Error ' ppc64 ' is not sopported by flash player 9..], before that I saved Flashplayer.tar.gz on Desktop, please check what I did in Gnome terminal and result :-

[root@localhost ~]# su
[root@localhost ~]# cd Desktop
[root@localhost Desktop]# ls
install_flash_player_9_linux
[root@localhost Desktop]# cd install_flash_player_9_linux
[root@localhost install_flash_player_9_linux]# ls
flashplayer-installer install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz libflashplayer.so
[root@localhost install_flash_player_9_linux]# ./flashplayer-installer

ERROR: Your architecture, \'ppc64\', is not supported by the
Adobe Flash Player installer.

[root@localhost install_flash_player_9_linux]#

This is my story with this installation in terminal..
I've YDL and I have Flashplayer file ...PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I DO???
I need that for watching videos on Youtube site.

I guess we need a "Global Announcement" post about this -- it's easily the most common question asked by new users. Adobe doesn't offer a PPC Linux build of Adobe Flash Player because the Adobe management doesn't think there's enough demand for it. You're trying to install the Adobe Flash Player for x86 architecture on YDL which runs on PPC architecture. It's not going to work, you can delete that folder from your desktop (the "install_flash_player_9_linux" folder).

The open source alternatives available to YDL in the repos, swfdec and gnash, don't work for youtube. It's reportedly possible to compile a later version of swfdec and play youtube video, but it's not a simple task. Also, you're using YDL 5 while the latest version is YDL 6, so that complicates the matter even more.

On the bright side, I have never seen YDL actually eat a user, so you should be pretty safe from that.

so.. I will install other Linux system instead of YDL5.0
But I have now Fedora 8 on DVD, can I insall it ?, what do you thinK about Fedora8 on PS3?
What is the best ? [ Fedora 8 or YDL 6 ]

I've some movies by MKV code HD, they didn't work on PS3 system and YDL 5 and I can't install VLC player on YDL5.
If I installed Fedora 8, can I play the movies and install VLC player or other player for MKV movies?
Please advice me

I liked Fedora 7 PPC more than I did Fedora 8 or 9 PPC. I don't use any of them now -- just YDL 6 on the PS3 and Centos 5.2 on x86. Using Fedora on your PS3 will take some extra work to get it running as well as YDL 6 does by default, but on the other hand you may have access to more recently updated software.

To my knowledge, there's no distro of Linux for the PS3 that allows you to easily play HD movies regardless of the container format.

Unfortunately - it's not that easy. You need to make the final decision. But - I will attempt to summarize:

Fedora 8 - Hard to set up, possibly newer software, geared towards advanced users.
YDL 6 - Easy to set up, doesn't update as often, better for beginners.

Due to the hardware restrictions of PS3 Linux - video is framebuffer only, no acceleration - neither will do HD very well.
